Description
Civic Ideals and Practices is a lesson that introduces students to the essential principles of democracy. In a constitutional democracy, citizens have both rights and responsibilities. This lesson provides students with an opportunity to explore the concepts and to participate in a community-based activity.
Through this lesson, students will gain an understanding of democratic ideals and practices. They will learn to explain the difference between rights and responsibilities in a democratic society. And they will see that citizens have a role to play in their community, nation, and world through civic participation (voting, activism, volunteering, etc.).
The students will practice differentiating between rights and civic responsibilities. This is an important skill for them to develop, as they will need to make informed decisions about the issues that affect their lives.
