Learn Bright learning roadmaps provide an excellent schedule to follow for teaching our lesson plans. Whether you are a teacher in a classroom or a homeschooler, these outlines will help you keep track of the subjects you need to teach your students. This roadmap explores physical science topics within the science subject category for students in 3rd grade and 4th grade.

Using the roadmap for each subject, you can figure out which lessons to teach and when. Some roadmaps provide a few additional lesson plans that you can use if you find that your students need extra practice, or if you have more time to fill. The roadmaps are a guide and are not meant to hold you to a rigid agenda. You can adjust as you wish to meet your specific needs and objectives.

Description

What our lesson guides include

Overview: The Physical Science Learning Roadmap Gr3-4 lesson guide introduces students to concepts and material that explore these unique fields of science. Students will study a number of varying subjects that align with NGSS standards. In total, the Physical Science guide includes 20 lessons.

Learn Bright learning roadmaps are useful tools for organizing your teaching agenda, whether in the classroom or at home. The science roadmaps are divided into general subject areas: earth and space, engineering and technology, life sciences, and physical science. This roadmap includes the lessons for the 3-4 grade band in physical science subjects. It lists the lessons in alphabetical order, and you will find the grade band associated with the lesson below the lesson title. Note that some lessons fall into more than one subject area or grade band.

Teaching Schedule

Because there is no national standard for teaching science-related topics, you can choose any number of these lessons to teach your students throughout the years. Many lessons relate well to each other, and you may benefit from teaching multiple lessons at the same time. For instance, the Physical Science Learning Roadmap Gr3-4 lesson guide includes separate lessons for atoms, compounds and mixtures, and the Periodic Table of Elements. You could teach all three in conjunction with each other to reinforce various concepts. Feel free to be flexible and adjust when necessary to fit your unique needs!

Physical Science Learning Roadmap Gr3-4 lesson guide

The learning roadmap for the physical science subjects includes 20 lesson plans. The topics vary from fossil fuels to simple machines to nuclear energy. The state educational standards for every lesson, which align with NGSS standards, are on the individual lesson product pages. Below is a short list of lessons from this roadmap. Each lesson contains a brief description that explains what students will learn.

Physical Science Lessons

  • Simple Machines 1—In this lesson, students learn about the six types of machines that make work easier to do. They will learn about the inclined plane, wedge, screw, lever, wheel and axle, and pulley. They will also have the opportunity to build something that incorporates at least two of these machines. This lesson is for students in 3rd grade and 4th grade.
  • Sink or Float—This lesson teaches students why certain object either fall to the bottom of a container of water or remain suspended at the top. Students will learn about density and its role in determining if objects sink or float. They will also discover facts about the mathematician, Archimedes, who discovered the concept of displacement. This lesson is for students in 1st grade, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade.
