Learn Bright learning roadmaps provide an excellent schedule to follow for teaching our lesson plans. Whether you are a teacher in a classroom or a homeschooler, these outlines will help you keep track of the subjects you need to teach your students. This roadmap explores physical science topics within the science subject category for students in 1st grade and 2nd grade.

Using the roadmap for each subject, you can figure out which lessons to teach and when. Some roadmaps provide a few additional lesson plans that you can use if you find that your students need extra practice, or if you have more time to fill. The roadmaps are a guide and are not meant to hold you to a rigid agenda. You can adjust as you wish to meet your specific needs and objectives.

What our lesson guides include

Overview: The Physical Science Learning Roadmap Gr1-2 lesson guide introduces students to concepts and material that explore these unique fields of science. Students will study a number of varying subjects that align with NGSS standards. In total, the Physical Science guide includes 6 lessons.

Learn Bright learning roadmaps are useful tools for organizing your teaching agenda, whether in the classroom or at home. The science roadmaps are divided into general subject areas: earth and space, engineering and technology, life sciences, and physical science. This roadmap includes the lessons for the 1-2 grade band in physical science subjects. It lists the lessons in alphabetical order, and you will find the grade band associated with the lesson below the lesson title. Note that some lessons fall into more than one subject area or grade band.

Teaching Schedule

Because there is no national standard for teaching science-related topics, you can choose any number of these lessons to teach your students throughout the years. Many lessons relate well to each other, and you may benefit from teaching multiple lessons at the same time. For instance, the Physical Science Learning Roadmap Gr1-2 lesson guide includes separate lessons for magnets, and pushing and pulling. You could teach both in conjunction with each other to help reinforce the lesson concepts. Feel free to be flexible and adjust when necessary to fit your unique needs!

Physical Science Learning Roadmap Gr1-2 lesson guide

The learning roadmap for the physical science subjects includes 6 lesson plans. The topics vary from light to sound to states of matter. The state educational standards for every lesson, which align with NGSS standards, are on the individual lesson product pages. Below is a short list of lessons from this roadmap. Each lesson contains a brief description that explains what students will learn.

Physical Science Lessons

  • Light—Students will learn about the unique characteristics of light and how living things use it every day. They will discover that there are different ways it can change, such as through reflection and refraction. They will also learn that light is energy and that it has many effects and uses. This lesson is for students in 1st grade, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade.
  • Pushing and Pulling—In this lesson, students learn a little about the physics behind pushing an object or pulling an object. Students will discover the differences and be able to explain them.
