Overview: The Math Learning Roadmap Grade 4 advanced students’ knowledge about several concepts they learned in previous years. Grade 4 continues to teach the place value system and how to solve word problems. It reinforces how to solve equations involving fractions and eventually introduces decimals. Students may also learn about percents if time allows throughout the year.
Learn Bright learning roadmaps are useful tools for organizing your teaching agenda, whether in the classroom or at home. The roadmaps schedule suggested lessons for each subject by grade level. The roadmaps divide the lessons into four quarters, each of which further divides into three periods of three to four weeks. Each period contains a number of lesson plans to teach that focus on even more specific areas within the subject.
You will be able to incorporate every period’s lessons from each subject’s grade-level roadmap. During the first three weeks, for instance, you will deliver the lesson plans in the first column of each subject. Roadmaps are meant to make it easy for you to follow a schedule from which to teach throughout the year. Some roadmaps contain additional lesson plans that you might choose to use if you have extra time or want extra practice. You do not have to follow them exactly. Feel free to be flexible and adjust when necessary to fit your unique needs!
Math Learning Roadmap Grade 4
The grade 4 roadmap for math furthers students’ grasp of several concepts from previous years. The beginning of the year will review place value, word problems, and multiplying and dividing numbers. The next couple quarters will primarily spotlight fractions. Throughout these quarters, students should solidify their understanding of fractions and how to compare, order, and interpret them. The final quarter will introduce basic statistics and angles.
Quarter 1
In the first quarter, students review rounding numbers, solving word problems, and multiplying and dividing large numbers. Lessons include Rounding to Nearest 10 & 100, Word Problems and Division, and Multi-Digit Arithmetic – Division.
Quarter 2
The second quarter heavily addresses fractions. Students will learn to compare the value of fractions, place fractions on a number line, and perform basic operations with fractions. Lessons in this quarter include Fractions on a Number Line 2, Decomposing Fractions, and Fractions – Reducing.
Quarter 3
Similar to the second quarter, students will focus on fractions again in the third. However, they will also begin to study decimals. Some of the lessons in this quarter include Fractions – Add and Subtract with Mixed Numbers, Word Problems – Fractions, and Decimal & Fraction Conversion.
Quarter 4
The fourth quarter involves basic algebraic expressions, basic statistics, and angles. Students will continue to learn about graphs and how to interpret and create graphs. They will also discover angles and how to measure them. Lessons include Evaluate Expressions, Measures of Center, and Angles and Degrees.
There is an extra page on this roadmap that contains several extra lesson plans. You can use these plans throughout the year as you have extra time or see the need for extra practice.
