Overview: The Math Learning Roadmap Grade 3 reinforces concepts from both grade 1 and grade 2 material. Students will review place values and operations like adding and subtracting. However, they will also discover how to solve equations with fractions with unlike denominators. In fact, much of this year will address fractions more in depth.
Learn Bright learning roadmaps are useful tools for organizing your teaching agenda, whether in the classroom or at home. The roadmaps schedule suggested lessons for each subject by grade level. The roadmaps divide the lessons into four quarters, each of which further divides into three periods of three to four weeks. Each period contains a number of lesson plans to teach that focus on even more specific areas within the subject.
You will be able to incorporate every period’s lessons from each subject’s grade-level roadmap. During the first three weeks, for instance, you will deliver the lesson plans in the first column of each subject. Roadmaps are meant to make it easy for you to follow a schedule from which to teach throughout the year. Some roadmaps contain additional lesson plans that you might choose to use if you have extra time or want extra practice. You do not have to follow them exactly. Feel free to be flexible and adjust when necessary to fit your unique needs!
Math Learning Roadmap Grade 3
The grade 3 roadmap for math discusses several similar concepts from grades 1 and 2. Specifically, students will learn a lot more about fractions with like and unlike denominators. They will delve deeper into geometry and math properties as well.
Quarter 1
The first quarter focuses on rounding numbers, adding and subtracting, and multiplication. Lessons in this quarter include Base Ten Numerals & Names, Addition Patterns, and Multiply One-Digit Numbers by 10.
Quarter 2
Similar to the first quarter, students will study multiplying and dividing whole numbers, mostly division. They will also learn more about real-world word problems and how to solve them. Lessons include Division as Unknown Factors, Long Division, and Solving Word Problems.
Quarter 3
The main focus in quarter three is on fractions. Students will discover how to solve equations with fractions that have like and unlike denominators. Some of the lessons in this quarter are Factors and Multiples, Fractions on a Number Line 1, and Multiply Fractions by Whole Numbers.
Quarter 4
For the fourth quarter, students will dive deeper into geometry concepts. They will learn geometric attributes and review area and perimeter of rectangles and polygons. They will also review and learn more about different kinds of measurements. Lessons include Partition Shapes, Area as Additive, and Measuring Liquid Volume.
There is an extra page on this roadmap that contains several extra lesson plans. You can use these plans throughout the year as you have extra time or see the need for extra practice.
