Description
Our Words, Phrases, and Rhythm lesson plan teaches students about the importance of rhythm when reading a poem, story, or song. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively with a partner to read a poem, answer specific questions about the poem, and then, using rhythm and regular beats, change the poem into a song that you can sing together. The students then perform the song for another pair of students or for the class. Students are also asked to match terms with their definitions, demonstrating their understanding of the lesson vocabulary.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to describe how words and phrases (e.g., regular beats, alliteration, rhymes, repeated lines) supply rhythm and meaning in a story, poem, or song.
