Description

Our Sequence/Chronological Order Nonfiction Text Structure lesson plan introduces students to the sequence or chronological order structure for nonfiction texts. It is important for students to be able to differentiate between this structure and other nonfiction structures, as the structure can provide help with reading comprehension. During this lesson, students are asked to read a provided nonfiction passage, highlight keywords that signal the passage is using sequence or chronological order, and providing facts and information about one main topic; they are also asked to list the main events in order and complete the summary statement to write what they learned about the topic. Students are also asked to write their own nonfiction piece in this structure on a topic of their choosing.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to read and write examples of description nonfiction text structure, list and identify keywords for the text structure, and set a purpose for its use.
