Description
Our Read for Purpose and Understanding lesson plan teaches students how to read more carefully and with an eye towards understanding the purpose of the text. During this lesson, students are asked to participate in a group activity in which they read a provided short story with a partner and write their thoughts, questions, and comments related to the story as they go; they then share these with the class. Students are also asked to read given passages and write a question or something to think about related to the underlined sentences in the passages, writing what an active reader might be thinking or asking.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to read grade-level text with purpose and understanding.
