Description
Our POV, Reasons and Evidence lesson plan teaches students how to identify supporting evidence for specific points in text as well as how to determine the point of view of a text. During this lesson, students are asked to work with a partner to choose either The Case for Self-Driving Vehicles or The Case Against Self-Driving Vehicles and answer questions about the articles; when they have completed the questions they then try to convince each other of the other’s point of view, using reasons and evidence from their respective passages to support their side of the argument. Students are also asked to read sentences and determine if they are facts or opinions.Â
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify which reasons support specific points in a text and identify the evidence and explain the connection between the reasons, supporting evidence, and points in a text.
