Description
Our Media Literacy lesson plan introduces students to the concept of media literacy. The Internet, cell phones and other media can be overwhelming for students today and may positively or negatively influence their daily decisions, opinions, and life choices. It can be difficult for students to become discerning and evaluate each form of media with their limited knowledge of the goals and role of media in the world. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively, in a group, to answer questions about their own media use and exposure and then use their creativity and critical thinking skills to create two posters advertising a product: one made by someone who is media literate and one by someone who is not. Students are also asked to individually decide whether given statements about media are true or false, testing their understanding of the material.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to define and identify media examples, describe and interpret media literacy and tell its potential impact and effect on people and society.
