Description
Our Letter Sounds, Patterns, and More lesson plan teaches students how to use their knowledge of letter sounds and patterns to read both known and unknown words more accurately when reading, both in and out of context. During this lesson, students are asked to cut apart given root words, prefixes, suffixes and other word parts to create as many different words as possible. Students are also asked to match the descriptions of words (including the number of syllables, sounds, and more) with words in a word bank to ensure that students can identify these components in any word they are shown.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to use combined knowledge of all letter-sound correspondences, syllabication patterns, and roots and affixes to accurately read unfamiliar multisyllabic words in context and out of context.
