Description
Our Identify Main Topics lesson plan teaches students what main topics are along with strategies for identifying main topics in writing. During this lesson, students are asked to practice identifying the main topic, focus topics, and supporting details of a piece of writing in addition to answering questions about the writing. Students are also asked to fill out “organizers” or charts that help them organize the information in a piece of writing.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify the main topic of a multi-paragraph nonfiction text as well as the focus of specific paragraphs within the text.
