Description
Our Dictionary Use lesson plan introduces how to use a dictionary, both online and otherwise, and explains the benefits of using a dictionary. During this lesson, students are asked to play a fun, interactive “Dictionary Race” game in which they and a partner compete to see who can find a dictionary entry for a given word, and information from the entry such as part of speech, faster. Students are also asked to rewrite groups of words in alphabetical order, find the words that would be found between two guide words, and more.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to alphabetize a series of words to the first or second letter and use a dictionary to find words; alphabetize a series of words and use a dictionary or a glossary to find words; alphabetize a series of words to the third letter and use a dictionary or a glossary to determine the meanings, syllabication, and pronunciation of unknown words.
