My experience with Learn Splash in general, and this material in particular, has been excellent. It is well designed, attractive, and engaging for students.

Wonderful resource for my young reader/writer

I got this resource for my kindergartener and laminated a copy so he can have it on hand every time he sits down to read and write. It has been enormously helpful, especially the picture examples. Thank you for providing this resource!

Consonant Digraphs

I have students who have trouble reading because some letters do not always make the same sounds especially when used in a digraph. This lesson really helped those students start to read better.

In our Consonant Digraphs lesson plan, students learn about what consonant digraphs – consonant pairs that represent a single sound – are and how they are used in words. Students learn some common consonant digraphs and learn the spelling-sound correspondences for these common examples.

Description

Our Consonant Digraphs lesson plan introduces students to common consonant digraphs, the consonant pairs representing one single sound. The consonant digraphs covered in the lesson include sh, ch, th, ph, wh, and ng. Each digraph is presented with a list of words that contain it so students may practice sounding out the words. During this lesson, students are asked to work with a partner to create as many words as possible using consonant digraphs and other parts of words. Students are also asked to work on their own to identify the digraphs in a provided story, demonstrating their ability to identify digraphs in text.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to know the spelling-sound correspondences for common consonant digraphs.
