In our Choosing a Book lesson plan, students are taught some methods that they might use to choose a book to read. Students learn about the differences between independent, instructional, and frustrational books and how to choose the right one for their reading ability.

Description

Our Choosing a Book lesson plan empowers students to pick the right book for them. Students will learn the steps to identify the right “level” of book for them. During this lesson, students will practice evaluating several different books to find one that’s a good fit for them.

Students will learn the steps to identify whether a book is at the independent, instructional, or frustrational level (referred to as “easy, just right, or too difficult” in this lesson). Students will select a “just right” text by using the acronym PICK.
