With our Word Relationships – Grade 5 lesson plan, students learn all about antonyms, synonyms, homographs, and homophones and how each is used.

Description

Our Word Relationships – Grade 5 lesson plan teaches students about various word relationships such as synonyms and antonyms. During this lesson, students are asked to work cooperatively with a group to play a game in which they take turns drawing words out of a hat; when each word is drawn, the first person to say a synonym for the word receives a point. Once all the words have been used, they place them in the container again and the first person to say an antonym for the word receives a point. Students are also asked to look at a list of words and write two different sentences with different meanings for each homograph.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to use and recognize the relationship between particular words such as synonyms, antonyms, homographs, etc. to better understand each of the words.
