Verifying the Meaning of Words and Phrases

$1.95

With our Verifying the Meaning of Words and Phrases lesson plan, students learn how to determine a preliminary definition of an unknown word and how to verify that meaning using a dictionary.

Description

Our Verifying the Meaning of Words and Phrases lesson plan teaches students how to determine and verify the meaning of new words. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively with a partner to read a passage and identify the meaning of specific bolded words; they then verify their meanings using a dictionary and write new sentences using the words. Students are also asked to work independently to fill in blanks in given sentences using words from a word bank, determine and verify the meaning of each word using the space provided below the sentence, and then use it in a new sentence.

At the end of the lesson, students will be able to verify the preliminary determination of the meaning of a word or phrase by checking the inferred meaning in context, using a dictionary, or through another strategy.
