Our Reflexive Pronouns lesson plan teaches students about reflexive pronouns, including what they are, how to use them, and how to identify them. Students practice using reflexive pronouns in their own writing in order to solidify their understanding of the lesson material.

This lesson includes a very detailed, step-by-step lesson plan and outlines what parts of the lesson can be taught on which day. You can find these suggestions in the “Options for Lesson” section on the first Classroom Procedure page.

Description

What our Reflexive Pronouns lesson plan includes

Lesson Objectives and Overview: Reflexive Pronouns introduces students to reflexive pronouns, including what they are, how to use them, and how to identify them. At the end of the lesson, students will be able to correctly and independently use reflexive pronouns in writing, identify reflexive pronouns in text, and explain the purpose of reflexive pronouns. This lesson is for students in 1st grade, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade.

Classroom Procedure

Every lesson plan provides you with a classroom procedure page that outlines a step-by-step guide to follow. You do not have to follow the guide exactly. The guide helps you organize the lesson and details when to hand out worksheets. It also lists information in the green box that you might find useful. You will find the lesson objectives, state standards, and number of class sessions the lesson should take to complete in this area. In addition, it describes the supplies you will need and what and how you need to prepare beforehand.

The supplies you’ll need for this lesson include reflexive pronoun passages, copies of the handouts and worksheets, chart paper or poster board, tape, art supplies, access to materials for recording, markers, whiteboards, dry erase markers, paper, and writing utensils. To prepare for this lesson ahead of time, you can prepare visual aids, gather the supplies, and copy the handouts.

Options for Lesson

Included with this lesson is an “Options for Lesson” section that lists a number of suggestions for activities to add to the lesson or substitutions for the ones already in the lesson. The suggestions for this lesson provide a guide for which parts of the lesson you can administer on which of the three days scheduled for the lesson. For example, for day one, it suggests having students review the parts of speech they have already learned and then introduce them to reflexive pronouns with a definition and a sample.

Teacher Notes

The teacher notes page includes a paragraph with additional guidelines and things to think about as you begin to plan your lesson. It notes that, while students likely use reflexive pronouns already, they may not know how to identify or define them. This page also includes lines that you can use to add your own notes as you’re preparing for this lesson.

REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS LESSON PLAN CONTENT PAGES

The Reflexive Pronouns lesson plan does not include any content pages. Rather, it provides a very detailed lesson plan, found on the two Classroom Procedure pages. It also includes a sample passage for students to practice with, in addition to the worksheets.

REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS LESSON PLAN WORKSHEETS

The Reflexive Pronouns lesson plan includes four worksheets: two activity worksheets, a practice worksheet, and a homework assignment. You can refer to the guide on the classroom procedure page to determine when to hand out each worksheet.

REFLEXIVE PRONOUN HUNT ACTIVITY WORKSHEET

For this activity worksheet, students will use books in their classroom or e-texts approved by their teacher to find reflexive pronouns and complete a chart. For each reflexive pronoun they find in their reading, they must like the pronoun (in the sentence or phrase), the page number, and the title of the book.

REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS IN SENTENCES ACTIVITY WORKSHEET

This worksheet asks students to use the words from a word bank to create five sentences. The words they can use are herself, himself, yourself, myself, ourselves, and themselves.

REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS PRACTICE WORKSHEET

The practice worksheet asks students complete six sentences with a reflexive pronoun that matches the subject of the sentence.

REFLEXIVE PRONOUN DETECTIVE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT

For the homework assignment, students will read a passage and identify all of the reflexive pronouns.

Worksheet Answer Keys

This lesson plan includes answer keys for the activity worksheets, the practice worksheet, and the homework assignment. The answer key for the first activity worksheet simply states that students’ answers will vary. If you choose to administer the lesson pages to your students via PDF, you will need to save a new file that omits these pages. Otherwise, you can simply print out the applicable pages and keep these as reference for yourself when grading assignments.
