Description
Our Questioning to Check for Understanding lesson plan teaches students strategies for asking questions for greater understanding. During this lesson, students are asked to work in a group to each write their own set of directions for tying their shoes and then take turns following their classmates’ directions, asking clarifying questions as they go. Students are also asked to solve a logic puzzle using specific clues given by their teacher; they are encouraged to ask clarifying questions during the exercise, demonstrating their ability to identify areas that may need further clarification or explanation.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify the reasons for and importance of developing and practicing listening skills, use techniques to assist them with listening and overcome reluctance to ask questions and understand the importance of asking questions to check understanding.
