Description
What our Pronouns lesson plan includes
Lesson Objectives and Overview: Pronouns prepares students to identify common pronouns and provides experiential learning activities for students to practice using pronouns in a sentence. At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify common pronouns and use them in a sentence. This lesson is for students in 1st grade, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade.
Classroom Procedure
Every lesson plan provides you with a classroom procedure page that outlines a step-by-step guide to follow. You do not have to follow the guide exactly. The guide helps you organize the lesson and details when to hand out worksheets. It also lists information in the orange box that you might find useful. You will find the lesson objectives, state standards, and number of class sessions the lesson should take to complete in this area. In addition, it describes the supplies you will need as well as what and how you need to prepare beforehand. The supplies you will need for this lesson include scissors and the handouts. To prepare for this lesson ahead of time, you can gather the scissors and copy the handouts.
Options for Lesson
Included with this lesson is an “Options for Lesson” section that lists a number of suggestions for activities to add to the lesson or substitutions for the ones already in the lesson. The only suggested adjustment to this lesson is to let students complete the activity on their own, rather than in pairs.
Teacher Notes
The teacher notes page includes a paragraph with additional guidelines and things to think about as you begin to plan your lesson. It notes that students who need extra practice can use the additional resources for the lesson. This page also includes lines that you can use to add your own notes as you’re preparing for this lesson.
PRONOUNS LESSON PLAN CONTENT PAGES
Pronouns
The Pronouns lesson plan includes two pages of content. The lesson begins with an example sentence that has no pronouns in it. It asks students whether or not that sentence sounds strange when they read it. The lesson then includes the same sentence, but with pronouns included. Pronouns are words that take the place of nouns. We use them when speaking and writing. Pronouns help you to not use the same word over and over again. Some of the most commonly used pronouns are: I, she, he, you, me, it, we, us, them, and they. We often use the pronouns I, she, he, you, and me to replace the name of a person. The lesson includes several examples of this. You can also use pronouns to replace the name or species of an animal.
We use the pronoun it to replace places or things. Most pronouns are short words, and they are used often in writing. We also use pronouns like we and them to replace groups of people or things. There are many different pronouns that we can use to replace many different things.
When you’re trying to identify a pronoun, you should make sure you know the person, place, or thing it’s replacing. The lesson includes several example sentences, with people, places, and things in one color and the pronouns that are replacing it in another. This allows students to clearly see the relationship between the two.
Pronouns replace nouns, and help you avoid saying the same word or words over and over again. It’s important to use them correctly!
PRONOUNS LESSON PLAN WORKSHEETS
The Pronouns lesson plan includes three worksheets: an activity worksheet, a practice worksheet, and a homework assignment. You can refer to the guide on the classroom procedure page to determine when to hand out each worksheet.
CREATE SENTENCES ACTIVITY WORKSHEET
Students will work with a partner to complete the activity worksheet. They will begin by cutting apart each of the pronouns and other words on the worksheets. They will then work together to use the words to create sentences. Each of these sentences must include a pronoun. They will then write their new sentences on the included sentence pages. Each pair will create as many sentences as possible.
CIRCLE THE PRONOUN PRACTICE WORKSHEET
For the practice worksheet, students will circle the pronoun in each sentence. There are 20 sentences total.
PRONOUNS HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT
The homework assignment asks students to write a sentence that correctly uses each of the listed pronouns.
Worksheet Answer Keys
This lesson plan includes an answer key for the practice worksheet. No answer keys are provided for the activity worksheet or the homework assignment, as students’ answers will vary. If you choose to administer the lesson pages to your students via PDF, you will need to save a new file that omits this page. Otherwise, you can simply print out the applicable pages and keep this as a reference for yourself when grading assignments.
