Description
Our Nonfiction Books lesson plan introduces students to the nonfiction genre. A list of text features is provided to help students identify whether a book is fiction or nonfiction. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively to read a provided nonfiction text and answer questions about it, showing that they can extract necessary information from nonfiction sources. Students are also asked to choose their own nonfiction book and identify the given text features in that book, providing page numbers and descriptions in order to demonstrate their understanding of the lesson material and what makes nonfiction books different from other books.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to orally retell stories and provide written retelling (synopsis). Students will also be able to identify a purpose for retelling.
