Description
Our Expanding Sentences lesson plan teaches students how to add more vivid imagery to their writing by incorporating adjectives and adverbs to lengthen and liven their sentences. This lesson focuses on developing the ability to write sentences that can be easily visualized by the reader. In order to do this, students are asked to work collaboratively, in pairs, to first create simple sentences and then to find ways to expand them. Students are also asked to work independently to practice inserting words into existing sentences, writing sentences of their own of various lengths, and come up with a list of descriptive words.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to expand simple sentences using adjectives and adverbs (describing words).
