Description
Our Additional Rules for Discussion lesson plan teaches students all about the rules for holding or participating in a discussion. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively with a group of other students to conduct a discussion on a topic of the teacher’s choosing; they then evaluate how well they and the other group members carried out their discussion. Students are also asked to work individually to answer questions about proper discussion procedures and etiquette, such as “If a topic does not interest you, what should you do?” and “What might happen if more than one person speaks at the same time during a discussion?”
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to follow agreed-upon rules for discussions (e.g., gaining the floor in respectful ways, listening to others with care, speaking one at a time about the topics and texts under discussion).
