Description
Our Adapting Speech to a Variety of Contexts lesson plan teaches students how to write or adapt a speech for certain audiences or contexts. During this lesson, students are asked to write and present a speech with a specific audience in mind (options include “Everyone in the world to encourage them to live peacefully with each other” and “The teachers at a school who are frustrated with students’ use of phones in the classroom”); they then plan out their speech by answering targeted questions and then present it to the class, strengthening their public speaking skills. Students are also asked to practice writing short, 5-sentence speeches for specific audiences.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to adapt speech to a variety of contexts and tasks, demonstrating command of formal English when indicated or appropriate.
