Description
Our Questioning to Clarify Information lesson plan teaches students how to ask questions for clarification. During this lesson, students are asked to conduct a discussion with a group of peers using the topic assigned by the teacher; the students take turns contributing to the discussion, and once a comment is made related to the topic, group members take turns randomly drawing a question out of a hat to ask a student. Students are also asked to work independently to read a small group sample discussion and answer questions about it, such as “what question would you ask Jane on Line 8 to help clarify her comment?” and “ what personal comment would you contribute to the discussion following Line 5 – Sean?”.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to pose and respond to specific questions to clarify or follow up on information and make comments that contribute to the discussion and link to the remarks of others.
