Description
Our Describing Characters lesson plan teaches students how to more effectively describe and understand the characters in the stories that they read. During this lesson, students are asked to work with a partner to read a short story and then fill out a chart with details about the characters, including their physical appearance, thoughts/feelings, words, and actions. Students are also asked to work independently to answer questions about characters in a story, such as “What thoughts, words, or actions of Chloe’s tell you that she is impatient?”.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to describe in depth a character in a story or drama, drawing on specific details in the text (e.g., a character’s thoughts, words, or actions).
