Description
Our Context and Word Recognition lesson plan teaches students strategies for using context to understand and recognize words in their reading. During this lesson, students are asked to work cooperatively with a partner to find words in the dictionary that they don’t know, define them, choose which context clue type would be useful for determining the meaning of the word in reading, and write sentences using the word and context clues. Students are also asked to choose the best word (out of a given list) to be used in specific sentences, based on context.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to use context to confirm or self-correct word recognition and understanding, rereading as necessary.
