Description
Our Marco Polo lesson plan introduces students to the famous explorer, Marco Polo. Many students may only be familiar with the swimming pool game of the same name, but most likely do not know the person behind the name. The lesson discusses the significance of Polo’s travels and includes information about the Silk Road. During this lesson, students are asked to work cooperatively with a partner to plan a journey across the United States, including at least 10 stops and a reason to stop there; students are also asked to keep track of the miles traveled, the method of travel between each stop, and more, developing their critical thinking skills and utilizing their creativity to create a fun but well thought out trip. Students are also asked to place the events of Marco Polo’s life in chronological order.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify Marco Polo and explain the significance of his travels; as well as locate the Silk Road and its use in history.
