Description
Our Pocahontas lesson plan introduces students to Pocahontas and the myths and facts about her life as it relates to Jamestown and the colonists from England. Most children will have heard of this princess through popular movies and books, however, may not understand her significance in history. During this lesson, students are asked to imagine they are Pocahontas writing a diary entry for each significant event in her life, writing what they think Pocahontas may have written; this allows students to consider how she may have felt during these times in her life. Students are also asked to match people who were significant in Pocahontas’ life with the reason they were significant or their relationship to her.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify Pocahontas, list facts about her life, and her connection with the settlement of Jamestown.
