Description
Our Latin Prefixes and Spelling Patterns I lesson plan introduces students to Latin prefixes, including how to identify them and what information they can tell a reader about the meaning of a word. It also teaches students how to begin to break down more complex and unfamiliar words as they synthesize knowledge of prefix words. Students are asked to create a prefix tree using the information gained in this lesson and their dictionaries, giving them a visual aid to see how prefixes can be used with all different kinds of words. Students are also asked to define their spelling words, write a sentence with each, and identify what the Latin prefix is for that word and what that prefix means.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify and define Latin prefixes and correctly spell and define words that contain given Latin prefixes.
