Our Slides, Turns, and Flips lesson plan introduce the concept of transformations. With the interactive manipulation of cut-outs to demonstrate slides, turns and flips, students will be able to define the terms; identify a figure that has been slid, flipped, or turned; and slide, turn, or flip a figure accurately. During this lesson, students are asked to work collaboratively, with a partner, to turn, slide, and flip a shape and glue it down that way with a caption identifying what was done to it. Students are also asked to individually complete practice problems in which they redraw shapes to slide, flip, or turn them, in order to demonstrate their understanding of the lesson.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to define slide, turn, and flip; and identify a figure that has been slid, flipped, or turned; and slide, turn, or flip a figure.
