Description
In this lesson, students will explore the perimeter in various hands-on and creative ways. First, they will start by making a self-portrait with colored squares and finding their own perimeter. Then a tasty snack will help them physically create polygons and determine the perimeter. Finally, students will draw their name and calculate the perimeter at home.
There are three engaging ways for students to remember that the perimeter is the distance around the outside of an object! This important math concept is so much more than just a numbers game, it’s a real-world application that students can use every day. With these three fun activities, they’ll be able to see how the perimeter works in the world around them, and they’ll never forget what it is again!
