Description
What our lesson guides include
Overview: The Engineering and Technology Learning Roadmap lesson guide introduces students to concepts and material that explore these unique fields of science. Students will study a number of varying subjects that align with NGSS standards. In total, the Engineering and Technology guide includes 10 lessons. Every lesson plan lists the grade band that applies to it, but you are welcome to adjust lesson plans to fit the appropriate grade level.
Learn Bright learning roadmaps are useful tools for organizing your teaching agenda, whether in the classroom or at home. The science roadmaps are divided into general subject areas: earth and space, engineering and technology, life sciences, and physical science. Therefore, they include the lessons for all grade bands in that subject. They list the lessons in alphabetical order, and you will find the grade band associated with the lesson below the lesson title. Note that some lessons fall into more than one subject area or grade band.
Teaching Schedule
Because there is no national standard for teaching science-related topics, you can choose any number of these lessons to teach your students throughout the years. Many lessons relate well to each other, and you may benefit from teaching multiple lessons at the same time. For instance, the Engineering and Technology Learning Roadmap lesson guide includes separate lessons for experiments, science fair preparation, and the scientific method. You could teach all three in conjunction with each other. Feel free to be flexible and adjust when necessary to fit your unique needs!
Engineering and Technology Learning Roadmap lesson guide
The learning roadmap for the engineering and technology subjects includes 10 lesson plans. The topics vary from aquaponics to scientific laws and theories to simple machines. The state educational standards for every lesson, which align with NGSS standards, are on the individual lesson product pages. Below is a short list of lessons from this roadmap. Each lesson contains a brief description that explains what students will learn.
Engineering and Technology Lessons
- Science Process Skills—Science Process Skills teaches students about interpreting data, hypothesizing, identifying variables, and more. Students will discover how scientists apply these skills to their experiments as they investigate the world around them. This lesson is for students in 4th grade, 5th grade, and 6th grade.
- Introduction to Flight—In this lesson, students learn about the basic concepts related to flight. They will discover how balloons, kites, and airplanes manage to fly. A balloon, for instance, relies on temperatures within and outside of the balloon, to ascend or descend. Kites, of course, rely on the right wind conditions. This lesson is for students in 4th grade, 5th grade, and 6th grade.
- Scientific Method—This lesson explores the basic steps of the process that scientists and many others use to test theories. Students will learn how to develop a hypothesis based on an observation. They will then discover how to conduct an experiment to test and either prove or disprove their theory. This lesson is for students in 3rd grade and 4th grade.
- Science Experiments—Our Science Experiments lesson plan introduces students to the concept of testing theories. Students will discover how scientists use the scientific method to answer various questions about their observations. They will also learn how variables have an effect on the outcome of an experiment. This lesson is for students in 1st grade, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade.
