End of Year Math Assessment – Grade 2

$1.95

The end-of-year assessments are an optional tool parents and educators can use to determine students’ grasp of concepts they learned throughout the year. Hopefully, students will have gained the skills necessary to pass the assessment easily. Deliver the test near the end of the school year to check whether or not students understand the grade-level standards. This assessment is designed for second-grade math students.

Similar to the BOYs, each assessment involves a pre-test, an activity, and a post-test. You will first distribute the pre-test, which assesses many of the skills students learned that year. After the pre-test, do the activity, which educates students on those same concepts and helps them remember things they may not have fully understood during the pre-test. Finally, distribute the post-test and compare students answers to those of the pre-test to determine whether they have improved.

Description

What our End of Year Math Assessment – Grade 2 includes

Objective and Overview: The End of Year Math Assessment – Grade 2 evaluation tests students in grade-level math areas to determine their baseline knowledge. Each assessment involves a quick pre-test, an activity, and a post-test. The pre-test analyzes students’ knowledge in some (but not all) of the skills that they should learn during this year. The activity will provide some instruction on the areas they explored during the pre-test. The post-test provides another score to compare to that of the pre-test so you can determine students’ grasp of the concepts. At the end of the assessment, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the basic mathematic calculations for children leaving second grade.

Teacher Notes

The teacher notes page includes lines that you can use to add your own notes as you’re preparing for this assessment. This page also lists information in the blue box that you might find useful. You will find the objectives, state standards, and number of class sessions the assessment should take to complete in this area. In addition, it describes the supplies you will need as well as what and how you need to prepare beforehand.

PRE-ASSESSMENT

For the pre-assessment, students will solve ten problems to test their understanding of the basic mathematical skills for children leaving second grade. You can use this as a benchmark to understand which skills students have and which they struggle with.

PIZZA CHEF ACTIVITY

The activity asks students to create four pizzas for their customers using construction paper. After they create their pizzas, they will answer a few questions about how to share their pizza equally with different numbers of friends. They will also write down their favorite topping for pizza and match fractions with their descriptions.

POST-ASSESSMENT

For the post-assessment, students will solve ten problems to test their understanding of the basic mathematical skills for children leaving second grade. This assessment tests the same skills as the pre-assessment.

Answer Keys

This assessment includes answer keys for the pre-assessment and post-assessment. If you choose to administer the lesson pages to your students via PDF, you will need to save a new file that omits these pages. Otherwise, you can simply print out the applicable pages and keep these as reference for yourself when grading assignments.
