What our lesson guides include
Overview: The Math Learning Roadmap Grade 2 lesson guide builds on the concepts students learned in grade 1. Students will review place and value, measurement, and graphs. They will also discover new ideas such as multiplying and dividing whole numbers, properties, and working with time and money. Other concepts include area and perimeter, algebraic thinking, and 2D and 3D shapes.
Learn Bright learning roadmaps are useful tools for organizing your teaching agenda, whether in the classroom or at home. The roadmaps schedule suggested lessons for each subject by grade level. The roadmaps divide the lessons into four quarters, each of which further divides into three periods of three to four weeks. Each period contains a number of lesson plans to teach that focus on even more specific areas within the subject.
You will be able to incorporate every period’s lessons from each subject’s grade-level roadmap. During the first three weeks, for instance, you will deliver the lesson plans in the first column of each subject. Roadmaps are meant to make it easy for you to follow a schedule from which to teach throughout the year. Some roadmaps contain additional lesson plans that you might choose to use if you have extra time or want extra practice. You do not have to follow them exactly. Feel free to be flexible and adjust when necessary to fit your unique needs!
Math Learning Roadmap Grade 2
The grade 2 roadmap for math both reviews ideas from first grade and introduces students to more advanced concepts. For instance, students will learn how to multiply and divide whole numbers and deal with money and time. They will also reinforce their grasp of shapes and how to measure them in different ways.
Quarter 1
The beginning of the year will contain similar lessons from the previous year as a review of the material. Students will learn more about place value and operations. They will also start to larger numbers and build the skill of applying what they learned already. Lessons include Read/Write to 1000, Addition with Regrouping, and Expanded Number Forms.
Quarter 2
For the second quarter, students will learn how to multiply and divide whole numbers. They will also review measurement and learn more types of measuring units. This quarter’s lessons include Division with Remainders, Basic Measurement, and Metric Measurement.
Quarter 3
The third quarter spotlights some new concepts such as time and money and math properties. It also reviews graphs and interpreting data from grade 1. Lessons include Calendars and Dates, Associative Property, and Introduction to Graphs/Data Points.
Quarter 4
The fourth quarter will again focus on geometry primarily and review fractions. The lessons in this quarter include Classifying Shapes, Rectangular Arrays, and Order Fractions with Like Numerators.
There is an extra page on this roadmap that contains several extra lesson plans. You can use these plans throughout the year as you have extra time or see the need for extra practice.
