Description
Our Literal and Nonliteral Word Meaning lesson plan teaches students how to interpret and understand idioms and their literal and nonliteral meanings. During this lesson, students are asked to choose an idiom, draw a picture showing its literal meaning, explain its nonliteral meaning, and use it in a sentence, demonstrating their understanding of the meaning of the idiom. Students are also asked to match nonliteral phrases/idioms to their meaning.
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to distinguish the literal and nonliteral meanings of words and phrases in context.
